Performance Radar Chart

Many schools spend hours trying to make sense of, and put to good use, all of the data they collect and report. We have helped schools to use this data in a meaningful, holistic and focused way.

Radar Charts are a Quality tool that enables us to view many sets of data on one page.

The indicators plotted on the chart usually reflect a holistic set of data including student results, staff and parent satisfaction, student well-being - disciplinary incidents, absenteeism, retention, enrolments, etc. The example Radar Chart below is from a large South Australian high school.

The Radar Chart can provide the means to use this important data to:

  • Focus attention on student learning outcomes - staff can engage in a meaningful way with school performance data
  • Stimulate professional discussion
  • Inform decision-making and improvement efforts - we can see from the charts the areas in which the school is demonstrating improvement as well as the areas in which further improvement effort is required
  • Track performance and improvement over time.

The method, based on the work of Dr Lee Jenkins, involves first working with a school to compile the required data and create the Radar Chart. A discussion with staff follows regarding interpretation and identifying improvement priorities using Quality methods and tools.
