Michael N KingBE (Hons), MBA, Grad Dip Science (Statistics)Michael spent the first decade of his work life as an electrical engineer in the Telecom Australia (now Telstra) network management unit. While with Telstra, Michael completed a Master of Business Administration at the Melbourne Business School after which he moved into the Corporate Quality Management Branch of Telstra. It was here that Michael developed a passion for the principles and practices of continuous quality improvement. |

Keen to apply what he had learned about quality improvement more broadly, Michael left Telstra in early 1995 to join the Australian Quality Council (AQC) as a Project Director. While with the AQC, Michael worked with many organisations, assisting them benefit from the Quality approach. Clients included government departments and agencies, large corporations and small enterprises. In 1996, Michael was instrumental in establishing the AQC Quality in Schools initiative in Victoria. This initial project was a joint initiative of the state Department of Education and the AQC. In the years that followed, Michael led the team that saw the Quality in Schools initiative grow to include over 150 Victorian schools. The program was adapted under Michael's leadership for the South Australian Department of Education and Children's Services involving over 200 schools and preschools, representing about 23% of state public schools and preschools.
